The Butterfly for Wind Symphony (2022).

The Butterfly is the name of an Irish folk tune—it is probably my favorite. I first heard it when my wife was teaching harp to lots of young harpists in our basement. I heard the tune over and over and grew to love it. My piece, The Butterfly, represents my third attempt at using this melody as the basis for one of my pieces. Each of the tune’s three sections is made up of motives that repeat and transform. These lend themselves to minimalist style development. The Butterfly was premiered by the Southeast Missouri State University Wind Symphony on May 3, 2022, Dr. Jim Daughters, conducting.
